RACE: New Years Eve 5K @22:04, Melbourne Beach, FL

Asides from the Deland Thanksgiving 10-Miler and OUC Half-Marathon, the New Year's Eve Run is another race I run every year. The race doesn't cost a thing but we're asked to bring something to share.

In past years, I've made monkey bread (with Hershey kisses), cupcakes, and a breakfast casserole. This year, I was short on time and just made brownies and brought some orange juice.

The race began at 11:45pm, but I didn't plan my evening quite right. I had dinner at 10:30pm and left the house with little room to spare (got there at 11:42pm).

There were 14 participants, and we were each given a glowstick since we were basically running along a dark beachside road (A1A) - it's part of the race's charm.

It's been a long time since I've run a timed 5k, but I ran pretty good. I came in 3rd with a time of 22:04. As always, it was a nice event and a great way to start the new year.
