In a quite contrast to the last music post, this song is a return to my sentimental and somewhat-d&t fare. It's the main song from Closer, a movie from 2004 that just finished re-watching. There were strong strong performances by both Natalie Portman and Clive Owen, and a redemption movie of sorts for Julia Roberts and Jude Law. The movie is very engaging, and it was when the end credits rolled that I got the full impact of how nuanced it was -- the film basically consisted of only the four main characters and the story twists were achieved through the manipulation of story speed and without an "grace of god" gimmicks -- a testament to the script (adapted from an award-winning play) and direction. The movie is really strong in its cynicism and sentiment, and Damien's sad, soft, and haunting song makes for the perfect bookend.

Lyrics (from www.damienrice.com):
and so it is
just like you said it would be
life goes easy on me
most of the time
and so it is
the shorter story
no love no glory
no hero in her skies
i can't take my eyes off of you
and so it is
just like you said it should be
we'll both forget the breeze
most of the time
and so it is
the colder water
the blower's daughter
the pupil in denial
i can't take my eyes off of you
did i say that i loathe you?
did i say that i want to
leave it all behind?
i can't take my mind off of you
my mind
'til i find somebody new
