Today, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced the nominees for the 62ndst Primetime Emmy Awards. The winners will be announced on Sunday, August 29, 2010 with Jimmy Fallon hosting. The show will air on NBC from Los Angeles' Nokia Theater.

[When I went up to SC last weekend, I made a stop to visit my sister in Charleston. Some of her friends were over, and we got caught up on America's Got Talent. It was surprisingly entertaining. Below are three of my favorites from that evening.]

This past weekend, I was introduced to Phineas and Ferb, and now I'm a big fan. I was immediately drawn to the show's structure and incredible wit -- plus, Perry the Platypus is just adorable. And the songs... what a surprise! Another season of So You Think You Can Dance begins, and this time they've re-introduced some All-Stars. I'm most excited to see Pasha and Allison back. Below is a Samba that features Pasha. Before, I felt disappointed when he went gratuitously shirtless, but since he's not "competing" this season (and the shirt looked like it was getting in his way), I'm perfectly fine this time. RUN: Home<-ss->Gym (elliptical)

[I find that it's easier to blog while things are fresh and when I'm still endorphinized.]

Anyways, I stayed a bit late at work today... maybe to make up for today's Toastmasters Contest (I didn't place)... but also maybe because I'm planning on heading up to SC tomorrow night to surprise my mom for her birthday.

[It's safe for me to post that here because she never reads this. On the other hand... Auntie Betty, I want to go visit you and Uncle William at Grand China at some point this weekend. (Mmm!)]

I made a quick stop by WM for labels to put on our TM E-Week giveaways next week. Then home, I finished up the running club's meeting minutes, and once again headed out to the gym -- my third or fourth day in a row!

I was there from 9:15pm-10:00pm and it was really sparse -- maybe 3 other people on the machines and another three doing weights or mat work... no one there for show. I skipped the laps for the elliptical/stair-strider thing. It was pretty cool because you could switch from high-knee stair action to graceful-antelope strides to something in between and change mid-stride/step... weird.

Anyways, I did that because I wanted low impact on my feet (I was feeling some pressure pain even on the way to the gym), I've already done a lot of bike this week, but I still wanted to watch American Idol (I Know!), and the smooth-motion elliptical seemed easy enough.

I did 2.00 miles in 23:10 and burned over 200 calories. And I watched many weirdos make it through to the Top 36 (Von Smith and Nick Mitchell really?!). I was not surprised but really happy about Brent Keith... yeah, Brent's a ringer, but they are so very nice to listen to and look at...

Inside the 8-minute warning, I jogged a couple laps, ProStretched 2 sets on each foot, then jogged a couple more before heading home. It was a mildly cool, crisp, moonlit jog home. I really like having the gym so close to my house; it kind of reminds me of college days.

Well, now I will now take my shower then maybe have a little drink while I start to pack. And also maybe I can get to bed early tonight.

TOASTMASTERS: Humorous Speech Contest

Today our Toastmasters club had its Humorous Speech Contest, and I brought chicken fried rice. I made it the night before -- took me the time I got home to the time I went to bed (s'all good cause I watched many episodes of Mad Men all while). Anyways, I put in scrambled eggs, carrots, green peas, corn, and chicken... plus the salt, pepper, oil, and soy sauce. I think I did good cooking it in batches and mixing a soy-sauced batch with some plain rice. I cooked the chicken separately and then folded it.

I brought a pan of it to the office this morning, and reheated it in the microwave in square-casserole-dish portions, and I think it turned out well. Everyone at the contest tried some and I got some compliments. Next time, I really should use Jasmine rice instead of the Mahatma rice.

Anyways, today I was the Contest Master. I projected my voice very well and kept my nervousness in check though I had a number of small, awkward gestures, and I kept close to the script. I thought it was a very good contest -- we had three very capable contestants, who spoke about eating habits, Star Wars re-writes, and canine intelligence. The one about Star Wars won.

I've realized from the experience that there is a lot of work behind the scenes, and I totally appreciate my VPE, who's done fantastic work with both of the contests this season and who has been great in getting speaking positions filled each week. I signed up to speak in two weeks, so we'll see how that one will go (I Majorly froze during my last time up).

Anyways, it was quite overcast when I left the office, and once I got home, I quickly got changed and headed outside to mow the lawn. And it was just in time. It started raining lightly after I finished edging the lawn.

Whew!

The rain ended quickly, and I went out and helped neighbors with edging and bug treatments (it really feels good to help others), then it was in for a shower and some food.

I watched another episode of Mad Men while I washed dishes, and now I'm in front of the computer catching up on last night's two-hours-worth of Wipeout... wow, Christian Readyhoff is quite the eye-candy... and sweet too.


Jill Wagner:So, Christian, here we are. There's 8 of you left. Who do you think is your biggest competition?

Christian Readyhoff: The Cheerleader.

J: You don't mind being beat by a girl?

C: I love getting beat by girls.

J: Oh Christian.

Anyways, I finished beer #1, and I think it's time for some Publix Toffee Candy Crunch frozen yogurt. Have a great night! I hope to get to bed soon.

OMG, after watching the latest online episode of Big Brother (of which this season is Scandalous!), I looked at the list of other shows they're offering Full Episodes of, and I saw MACGYVER! I used to watch this show crazy mad (seriously, I tantrum-ed for it when I was younger). Anyways, maybe it was the adventure, maybe it was the science, maybe it was a childhood crush on Richard Dean Anderson...

TELEVISION: Dancing With The Stars - Sabrina Bryan

I don't have cable so I don't really watch much tv, but I still like keeping up-to-date with what's happening. So I keep current by going to rickey.org.

Recently, I saw that the current season of Dancing With the Stars just gave out its first perfect 30 score -- to Sabrina Bryan (from the Cheetah Girls) and her partner Mark Ballas, WEEK 4 - Paso Doble:


I thought the performance looked great, high-energy, and wonderful. I watched their performances so far and am amazed by their skill level.

1) Candy Corn flavored popcorn

I was in WalMart and impulse bought a pack of Candy Corn flavored popcorn. They come in 12 mini-bags. I got home and tried some, and they actually taste pretty good. I'm glad that they only come in mini-bags though.

2) Brothers & Sisters, season 1 on DVD

I LOVE this show and impulse bought the DVD set when I was at Target on Wednesday. It come with 6 DVDs, and I'm already on Disc 4. It's hard to believe that they're 2-3 episodes into Season 2. I hope that it doesn't get Too popular and start slipping like Grey's.

PUG: Brothers & Sisters

Today, I'm at home trying to clean my desk. In doing so came across a piece of paper on which I had written down a conversation from one of my favorite shows, Brothers & Sisters on ABC.

It's of when Kevin Walker (Matthew Rhys) the gay lawyer son of the family, meets Chad Barry (Jason Lewis) this attractive actor, and Kevin's getting mixed signals from this guy who's supposedly straight. I like the exchange not only because of the inherent giddiness factor but also because of the pug reference...
