SHOW: Kathy Griffin @ King Center, Melbourne, FL

Tonight, Kathy Griffin performed at the King Center here in Melbourne, FL. She did a 90-minute show with no interruptions, and covered Scientology, Oprah, The Today Show, Iraq, and her Emmy-nominated show. Lots of adult language and situations (needed that SO much), and the audience was much better than I had anticipated. Kathy did really well with the "gays and astronauts" crowd. I saw some people from work, from The Living Room of Brevard, and even a friend from Orlando (out of the blue).

I had brought a box of Grimaldi Milk Chocolate Covered Potato Chips - made here in Melbourne - because we all know Kathy loves her snacks, and after the show, I was confused as to whether or not she was going come out and sign stuff, so I took a friend's advice and gave the chocolates to a guy who would be sure that Kathy received it.

Then I walked outside. Realizing that getting out of the parking lot would be a fight, I stuck around and waiting for Kathy with the fifteen or so others. We stood by the back gates, and less than half-an-hour later Kathy came out and signed ticket stubs and took pictures. My camera was low on batteries, so like many others I was saved by seemingly the only person out there with a working digital camera, Liz, who took down all our email addresses and told us that she'll send the pictures out tomorrow! I'm not sure how they'll turn out - I'll be happy with anything - but it was a fun experience, and it was nice to be around others who share an enthusiasm. :)

It's 11pm, and I'm stoked and would totally go for another run if I didn't know any better. I got to see Kathy Griffin up close - one life goal accomplished! and I'm sure it won't be the last time. I think I'm still in shock... much of tonight's already a blur. It's off to bed (responsibly) then a long (long long long) work day - it's National Coming Out Day, but I'm not sure what I'm going to do... at this afternoon's staff meeting, I got a pretty clear vibe as to how Republican my program is... kind of scary. Just gotta survive and know that Kathy's out there spreading the good word.
