MUSIC: Lifehouse's "First Time" Cover Contest

From Lifehouse's official website:

"Thank you to everyone who submitted a cover of First Time! After watching 80 covers, we've made the hard choice of narrowing it down to 35 finalists but we need your help. Tell us what you think is the best cover and we'll choose from the top 10 in the poll. It's a big decision of who gets in the Top 10, as the winner gets the Lifehouse prize package of colossal proportions!"

I looked at the results so far, and watched the videos of the ones "in the lead". It was an eclectic collection of talents. Below are four of the contenders. Take a look and listen, then vote for your favorite.

Looks like David Beckham and Ethan Hawke's lovechild (mmm!), and he can actually sing and play the guitar. He has almost 70 videos post on his YouTube page, and you bet that I'm going to watch all of them.


For: nice straight-forward cover, consistent ability, gorgeous
Against: one of the tamer entries
Demographic: women, gays, purists

Go Asians! (woo!) I like what he and she did with the music -- I <3 keyboard+syncopation. Are they available for commitment ceremonies? :)


For: interesting take (in the good way), can't really think of anything bad to say about them, liked the ending
Against: kinda feels too goody-goody (*shrug*)
Demographic: classical musicians, Asian parents

Surprised to see a female+female entry... could their dresses be any shorter? (ha!). They were better than I thought that they'd be, especially as a guitar+guitar combo, though the ending was cheesy.


For: pretty and surprisingly talented girls, nice dual-guitar work
Against: by my own observation Lifehouse's fanbase appears to be primarily female
Demographic: model scouts, yodelers, boyfriends of Lifehouse fans

Rooftop scene, check. County Fair scene, check. Farm scene, check. In-a-hoodie-walking-along-a-river-at-dawn scene, check. The singer's voice is far from the best and the video is SO cliche, but the production value and the guys' likability put this entry up there.


For: production, variety, hometown charm
Against: sour notes in their bridge
Demographic: fraternities, sororities, boy band fans
