Tonight I went to go see my friend Emily in the Henegar Center's production of Nunsense. I sat with her sister and their parents who were visiting from up Indiana.
The show was funny and engaging, and totally not what I thought it was going to be about. I was thinking it was going to be about a couple of criminals who hide out in a convent in drag. When I got home, I searched imdb.com only to realize/remember that I was actually thinking about Nuns on the Run.
Nunsense is about some nuns who are putting together a "revue" (jokes, song, and dance) to raise money to bury the four remaining [unburied] nuns who died of botulism. There were only 5 principal performers on the stage, but they filled up the show with heretic material that's going to send them all to hell! (just kidding about the "going to hell" part).
Yeah, there's a big difference. Dah.
Anyways, my friend Emily played Sister Mary Leo, the youngest nun who entered the convent to dedicate her life to God through the dance (ballet). When she went en pointe, I couldn't believe my eyes - I didn't know that she had it in her! She looked like a professional with that! (wow!).
Tonight was a sold out show (tomorrow's will be too). My experience of attending many of the shows there tells me that the raunchier and risque the material, the more the crowd loves it (I took my MOM to the last production, Laughter on the 23rd Floor, and she giggled at all of the profanities).
It was so good to see Emily and her sister again, and to meet their parents; they were so nice.
Anyways, here are a few pictures from tonight:
what about Kissed by a Nun?!
