RACE: Fall Into Winter 5k, Cocoa Beach, FL @27:38

Yes, you read that correctly. 27:38. I overslept. I literally looked at my watch (7:11am), put on my running shorts and shoes, got in my car, and drove off to the 7:30 race in Cocoa Beach. I made the 17-mile/28-minute drive in about 20 minutes. I didn't brush my teeth, I didn't warm -up, I didn't attempt to pick up my race number,... I just ran.

The race was in at Coconuts on the Beach, ON the beach, the sand was compact and was much easier to run on than last year. I made it to the first mile marker at 12-minutes (race-time) exactly. I just put my head into it and ran what appeared to be a very even-paced race and finished up in 27:38... that would've been a 22:30 had I started on time. And I'm sure that it would've been even faster had I had the chance to make a "pit stop" before the race.

Yeah, I didn't get to do my morning poop or pee, or on race days, my series of morning poops and pees (yeah, I said "poop" (tu-wice)... runners are shameless). So I was worried about having to go during the entire drive to the race and during the race. I was wondering if I could (would?) 've gone into the ocean and do my business...

Anyways, I think I got 8th out of 11 in my age group... not bad, I guess... and it's another one of those "put me in my place and get a new perspective" sort of experiences. It's a story at least...
