[couldn't decide on which of the movie's posters to use, so I put up both (bof) of them]
I've been telling myself that I'd go see a movie for a couple weeks now (thinking "Enchanted"), but I decided to go to see The Golden Compass. Getting myself to go there was like making myself take a nap. I know that it'd be good for me, so why is it so dang difficult.
Anyways, I enjoyed the The Golden Compass. The ideas behind it was pretty clever and fantastical - particularly the one about daemons (of course, mine would be Stitch). Playing Lord Asriel, Daniel Craig was gorgeous (as usual):
but didn't have much screen time after a certain point (his character plays a much larger role in the [possible] sequels. And Nicole Kidman was engaging as the villain/pseudo-villain Marisa Coulter:
Eva Green was beautiful as the witch Serafina Pekkala (the witches were cool!). And the young girl did a fine job. For me, a stand-out was the film's beautiful look (art direction, visual effects, cinematography); I thought it was better than the first Narnia (though the trailer for the 2nd Narnia (Prince Caspian) looks crisp and a grand improvement).
Anyways, The Golden Compass was able to take me away to another place for a couple hours, and that's a mark of a good movie to me.
